The attorneys of Montgomery & Interpreter, PLC, are honored to provide legal services to Indian Tribes and Nations in Arizona, South Dakota, and throughout Indian Country. Our attorneys understand that the effective practice of Indian Law requires an unparalleled depth of legal and historical scholarship that is only obtained through dedication and experience. We have a strong respect for our Tribal clients and have committed ourselves to the practice of Indian law since the inception of our careers.

Our attorneys have represented Tribal governments, departments, and enterprises on a wide array of matters, both as special and general counsel. We also provide legal advice to individual tribal members and tribally owned businesses.

We believe our role is to provide Tribal clients with the very best legal advice and representation possible so that they have the information necessary to make informed decisions that protect Tribal sovereignty, preserve Tribal resources, and reflect true self-determination.

Our attorneys have litigated on behalf of Tribal clients in state and federal court to help them secure and use their federal reserved and aboriginal water rights, protect their natural resources, and safeguard sacred and religious sites. We have also worked with Tribal departments and committees to draft Tribal ordinances, codes, and laws that meet the needs of the Tribal community and reflect the traditions and cultural practices of the Tribe.

Representative Accomplishments

  • In a Ninth Circuit Appeal, we coordinated with the 20 member Tribes of a Native American non-profit organization and served as principal drafter of the Amicus Brief regarding the jurisdiction of the White Mountain Tribal Court.
  • Participated in the representation of a Native American non-profit organization regarding the voter identification issue and its discriminatory effect on Native Americans.
  • Drafted Tribal codes for water conservation, housing, probate, juvenile court procedures and Tribal management regulations and policy to protect Tribal sovereignty and meet P.L. 93-638 compliance requirements, while also respecting a Tribe’s standard modality of operations.
